What Is THCA?

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the raw, non-intoxicating compound found in fresh cannabis and hemp flower. On its own it won't get you high — it only becomes THC when heat is applied.

THCA vs. THC

The difference is one chemical step. When you smoke, vape, or bake THCA flower, the heat triggers a reaction called decarboxylation that converts THCA into Delta-9 THC — the compound responsible for the classic effects. That's why THCA flower is measured by its THCA content but delivers a THC experience once heated.

Why THCA flower exists

Because the hemp definition is based on Delta-9 THC content, high-THCA hemp flower has become a widely-sold category. The flower looks, smells, and performs like premium cannabis, and it's tested by an independent lab with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) available for every batch.
